Off in the near horizon I see
A Sunday morning coming up slow
I'll rise to my feet early
To watch you bask in your glow
We'll tussle under the covers
Nuzzle like new lovers
You've made me more of a man
More than you'll ever know

On the radio plays
That Sunday jazz, those Sunday blues
And we dance while breakfast cooks
Dancing in pajamas without any shoes
I'll weave my fingers through your hair
You'll steal kisses without a care
On the front page of the papers
Our love makes headline news

The teakettle trumpets and the
Toaster says his bread is done
But first I chase you around the kitchen
ZOOM you're off on the run
You vault over the counter quite neatly
I always catch up and kiss you quite sweetly
When you eat I can't help but think
Your smile was kissed by the sun

We share yet another moment
Before our daughter greets us hello
She's 27 and today's her wedding day
With you she shares her ethereal glow
The words have escaped; I'm not sure what to say
But I know, to be sure, I have to give my girl away
I remember your own father, who once said
As a father, sometimes you just know

Next comes our eldest son
He'll graduate a Tarheel this spring
He's on a mission; he starts in right away
He needs money to buy his class ring
And here comes our youngest boy, all of 18
He's off this fall to Michigan to be a Wolverine
Pretty soon our future in-laws arrive
Our home begins to sing

We talked with mirth about this day
We were painting our first baby's room
It was a soft and glowing yellow
You were decorating it like Where the Wild Things Are
When you looked at me and said "Jason, get the car!"
A few hours later there were two women in my life
I was blessed that day as Earth's luckiest fellow

Five years later we were painting again
This time the room was baby blue
Why you let me name the Dashiell
You still haven't a clue
Soon thereafter came Thompson number three
He looked liked you and little bit me
Soon you were a VP and from the Navy I retired
Time with you was amazing, time simply flew

Now I find myself standing in an aisle
Wearing my wedding tuxedo
Now I know what your father felt like
When to me he gave you
In my eyes the tears start welling
In my heart our secrets are telling
You look up at me, and I down at you
You nudge me to my little girl; I know what I must do

The marrying man is a good man
Strong of character and heart
I'm weeping openly now
The memories are about to start
Looking at you I can see your pride
Daughter getting married, me at your side
I look at my daughter and my beautiful wife
I still think, "God's finest works of art."
I wrote this some time ago when I was hopelessly in love.
I keep thinking about how wonderful I felt then. I decided to post this to help me remember.
The scheme is homemade. Let me see if I can chart it.

Yeah, that's it. A little strange but more flexible to my tastes.
